To live the rich life expresses a goal for most of us, but unfortunately it has become an elusive dream for many modern-day retirees.
Today’s retirement living involves more than just leaving a job; it’s the beginning of a new chapter of life. Many baby boomers have hit their retirement target age and are eager to say goodbye to the employment ball and chain and hello to leisurely pursuits of travel and recreation. Creating wealth often means simply coming up with a great little idea. It’s usually one of those ideas that has others saying, “I could have thought of that.”
Case in point? CafePress.com.
CafePress.com got its start in California in 1999 as an idea that people might want to create their own artwork and see it printed on T-shirts and other products. Artists could open up their own “shops,” CafePress would set a baseline price for each product, and the “shopkeepers” could set their own retail price above the base price, pocketing the difference. When looking for a business to start or a service to offer, take a lesson from history: Mine for a little gold, if you want, but make your main business the tools behind the trend.
During the many gold rushes throughout the United States in the late 1800′s and early 1900′s, only a handful of the thousands of gold prospectors hit the mother lode. But nearly all of the providers of mining tools made their fortunes. That’s a difficult concept to grasp at first. For one thing, it is much less glamorous.
